You Murderers! Where Are Our Dear Ones?

Where are our dear ones?

By Yasir Ashraf, AIP,
Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Association of parents of Disappeared persons today held a silent sit in protest at Sher-I-Kashmir Park here against the enforced disappearances in the Valley.
The relatives of more than 8000 persons continue to wait for the government to probe all the cases of disappearances, deliver justice to the families of the disappeared and punish the perpetrators, the statement said.
“More than three months have passed since the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC), after endorsing our findings on unmarked graves and mass graves, passed a judgment in which it asked the government to constitute an Independent Commission for probing the identity of those buried in unmarked graves, investigating the circumstances in which they were killed and identifying the perpetrators involved,” the statement added.
The statement alleged that the government as usual has buried the SHRC judgment through delaying tactics to continue obfuscation. Obviously for the family members of the disappeared knowing the truth regarding the whereabouts of their loved ones is the priority, but successive governments through their actions have expressed that justice and human rights is not their priority.
They accused state government for not appointing chairperson of the State Human Rights Commission. “From 23rd October 2011 till now, the government has not appointed the new chairperson of the SHRC, which of course is impeding its inquiry into unmarked graves and mass graves in the Poonch and Rajouri districts. By not appointing the SHRC chairperson the only impression which we as APDP can gather is that government wants to delay the inquiry of unmarked graves and also the constitution of an Independent Commission on unmarked graves and disappearances in Jammu and Kashmir, which again is an example of how human rights and justice is not a government priority,” the spokesperson of APDP, Yaseen Hassan Malik told Agence India Press.
The spokesperson also said that enforced disappearance is not an issue of the past. “Even this year a 21 year old young man, Susheel Raina, disappeared mysteriously in the month of April 2011. Till now the government has done nothing to probe his disappearance,” he added.
He asserted that since 1998, APDP has been demanding the appointment of an independent Inquiry Commission for probing the phenomenon of the enforced disappearances in Jammu and Kashmir but successive governments have never paid any heed to this demand. “If the killing of Haji Mohammad Yousuf, an NC activist, merits a Commission of Inquiry, then certainly disappearances of 8000 persons should also be probed by a credible and capable inquiry commission,” Malik told Agence India Press.

About the Book
Hindutva terror has finally emerged. It was on 6 April, 2006 when Nanded witnessed a bomb blast at the house of Laxman Rajkondwar, a longtime RSS activist, killing his son and another Sangh activist. The blast brought to the fore the systematic manner in which people associated with RSS and allied outfits were engaged in making and storing explosives, imparting arms training and planning to bomb minorities as part of their mission to establish Hindu Rashtra in India. Five years later, investigating agencies are in the know of the involvement ofHindutva supremacists in dozens of earlier and later blasts like Malegaon and Samjhauta Express. The role of international linkages and networks of different Hindutva formations in collecting funds, mobilising resources and supporting the cause has added further ferocity to this project. The present book, the first comprehensive treatment of the subject, shows thatHindutva terror is not a mere regional or rare phenomenon. Apart from bringing forth the commonality of tactics used by these terror modules, the book also looks at the phenomenon historically and presents hitherto unexplored evidence. It also underlines the Himalayan task which awaits the investigating agencies as they are yet to nab any of the masterminds, planners, financiers and ideologues of these terror attacks despite ample evidence.

Daggers In My Heart.

Al Salamu 'Alaykum.

Borivali is a suburb of Bombay. It is primarily a ghetto of Gujarati and Marathi middle and lower middle class people with their own prejudices and hatreds. The Gujaratis and Jains in particular have an inveterate hatred for the Muslims, as those who followed the Gujarat pogrom of Mahatma Modi must be knowing.

Brother Muhammad Nawaz Doli is a Muslim who lives in Borivali. Like a simple, straightforward Muslim he decided to put his little daughter in a local playgroup that was close to his house. Little did he know that the Gujarati & Jain parents of other children would close ranks to exclude his 2 year old daughter from the group and its activities. Not only that but he and his wife were also not invited to Parent-Teacher meetings because other parents objected to "such people" in the group.

Apparently the girl's grandpa used to be lungi-clad and eat pan outside the playgroup. But the Gujaratis are forever chewing pan and gutka and mawa and tobacco in their own local dress. Is it any less kosher if done by a Muslim?

I can't find it in my heart to blame the spineless owner of the playgroup for her behavior. After all, she is in it for the money, not for the principle of the thing. The brother has withdrawn his daughter from the group that treated her like an achoot (untouchable) and filed a police complaint. More strength to him.

But the dagger in my heart is because of my own community.

Why do we expose our young children and their souls to such scarring?

Why do we stand and beg in front of schools run by Christians and Jews and Marwaris and Hindus for seats for our kids?

When are we going to have our own playgroups and KG schools?

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

We don't expect Christians to give us our Dar ul 'Ulum Deoband.

We don't expect Marathis to give us Nadwatul 'Ulama.

We don't expect Jains to give us our Mosques and Maktabs.

Then why do we expect the Kuffar to give us our secular educational institutes?

Why not set them up ourselves and then say, "To hell with you! We don't need you!"

May Allah protect the Muslims of India and their sons and daughters and may we never forget,

"Kafir La Aytebaar".

Buzz Off From Harvard, Supradumdum Smarmy!

Harvard drops Subramanian Swamy's courses

By IANS,
Washington : Harvard University has cancelled Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy's summer courses over his controversial article in a Mumbai newspaper advocating destruction of hundreds of Indian mosques and disenfranchisement of non-Hindus in India.
After a heated debate, a meeting of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Tuesday voted to remove two Summer School courses - Economics S-110 and Economics S-1316 - taught by Swamy, according to The Harvard Crimson, the campus newspaper.
Swamy received significant criticism for his op-ed last summer in Daily News and Analysis calling for the destruction of mosques, the disenfranchisement of non-Hindus in India who do not acknowledge Hindu ancestry, and a ban on conversion from Hinduism, it said.
"Swamy's op-ed clearly crosses the line by demonising an entire religious community and calling for violence against their sacred places," Comparative Religion Professor Diana L. Eck was quoted as saying.
Harvard has a moral responsibility not to affiliate itself with anyone who expresses hatred towards a minority group, she said. "There is a distinction between unpopular and unwelcome political views."
Although Harvard chose to stand by Swamy in August in an effort to affirm its declared commitment to free speech, faculty members shot down his two courses, effectively removing him from Harvard's teaching roster, the campus paper said.
Many faculty determined Swamy's article was not a product of free speech-but of hate speech.
"[Swamy's position on disenfranchisement] is like saying Jewish Americans and African Americans should not be allowed to vote unless they acknowledge the supremacy of white Anglo Saxon Protestants," said History professor Sugata Bose.
Dean of the Summer School Donald H. Pfister explained that courses included in the Harvard catalogue are chosen by individual departments.

Bizarre Temple Tradition.

Bangalore, Dec 6 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party government in Karnataka may ban a bizarre tradition of people rolling over plantain leaves with leftovers of meals, eaten by Brahmins, at some temples in the belief it cures them of skin ailments.
The ritual, said to be 400 years old, is mostly undertaken at the Kukke Subramanya temple in the coastal district of Dakshina Kannada, though it is practiced at some temples in neighbouring Udupi district also.
Called the 'urulu seve or made snana', the roll-over ritual is performed on the annual 'Shasthi' - sixth day of the month - festival late November or early December.
Like last year, this year too the ritual at Kukke Subramanya, undertaken on Nov 29, had evoked strong protests from Dalits, sections of writers, lawyers and even some BJP ministers.
As the protests against the ritual continued, Social Welfare Minister A. Narayanaswamy Tuesday announced in Bangalore that he has sought a detailed report from the district authorities and will take a decision on banning it if it is established that only Dalits were performing it.
He said the authorities have been given four days to submit their report on whether people from different communities were taking part or only Dalits were, and if there was any pressure or force to undertake the ritual.
Labour Minister B.N. Bachche Gowda, opposing the ritual, said in Bangalore that the cabinet will soon take a decision to ban it.
Another BJP minister, V.S. Acharya, handling higher education ministry, however, has been speaking against a ban, saying 'we should not go against people's beliefs.' He has been justifying his stand: 'No one is forcing anybody to perform the ritual, which is said to have been practiced for 400 years.'
Temple authorites also say that it is not part of rituals recognized and performed at the temple but a tradition where people of different communities, including Brahmins, take part.
The temple, about 300 km from Bangalore, is devoted to Subramanya. The idol of Subramanya is in the shape of a nine-headed serpent. Legend has it that Subramanya protected serpent god Vasuki, who had taken shelter in a cave at Kukke from Garuda.
A well-known ritual performed at the temple is 'sarpa samskara' to ward off the effect of 'sarpa dosha' or the curse of the serpent god.
Among the celebrities who have prayed at the temple is cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar.

Christians More Militant Than Muslims In UK.

LONDON, June 20, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Despite Britain being an officially Christian country with a majority Christian population and a Christian heritage reaching back to the 7th century AD, the UK’s equalities chief has said that Christians need to “integrate” better into Britain’s “modern liberal democracy.” Compared to Muslims, he said, Christians are “more militant” and have a harder time blending in.
“There are a lot of Christian activist voices who appear bent on stressing the kind of persecution that I don’t think really exists in this country,” said Trevor Phillips, chairman of the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC).
The current movement towards doctrinal and moral orthodoxy in the Anglican and Catholic churches is a revival of “an old time religion incompatible with modern society” that is clashing with “mainstream” views, especially on homosexuality, he continued.
Phillips told the Sunday Telegraph in an interview this weekend that while most actual cases of religious discrimination are against Muslims, Christians often complain of discrimination for cynical political reasons. The interview comes as the Equalities Commission is expected to issue a report on religious discrimination.
“The most likely victim of actual religious discrimination in British society is a Muslim but the person who is most likely to feel slighted because of their religion is an evangelical Christian.
“I think for a lot of Christian activists, they want to have a fight and they choose sexual orientation as the ground to fight it on. I think the argument isn’t about the rights of Christians. It’s about politics.”
At the same time, Phillips said that “people of faith” are “a bit under siege” from atheists whom he accused of attempting to “drive religion underground” and conceded that there is “more anti-religion noise” in Britain recently.
He admitted that the EHRC had not stood up in the past for people complaining of religious discrimination, and said that “faith groups” should be free from government interference in their own affairs.
Churches, he said, should be allowed to block women and homosexuals from being priests and bishops. In the same interview, however, he said churches and religious institutions had to comply with equality legislation when they delivered services to the public as a whole.
He blamed the Christian churches that adhere to traditional moral laws for influencing recent African and Caribbean immigrants to be more “intolerant” of homosexuality.
Unlike intolerant evangelical Christians, Britain’s Muslims, he said, are “doing their damnedest to come to terms with their neighbours to try to integrate and they’re doing their best to try to develop an idea of Islam that is compatible with living in a modern liberal democracy.”
The ECHR was established by the Tony Blair Labour government in 2006 to administrate the Equality Act. The Act, including the notorious Sexual Orientation Regulations, has already resulted in the closure or secularization of all of the country’s Catholic adoption agencies. Recently the former Archbishop of Canterbury, Lord George Carey directly accused equalities legislation for “marginalizing” Christians.
“It is clear that we must stand up against the marginalizing of faith. We must constantly remind society of its Christian roots and heritage. As I wrote recently, if we behave like doormats, don’t be surprised if we are treated as though we are,” said Lord Carey, speaking last year at an event organized by the Christian Broadcasting Council.
A 2009 poll found that thousands of Christians in Britain fear losing job promotions and are suffering harassment at work because of their beliefs. One in five said they had faced “opposition” at work and over half said they had suffered from some kind of “persecution” at work.
Meanwhile British media reports that violent crimes by Muslims, particularly against homosexuals, are increasing, while police do nothing. A case in point is the London borough of Tower Hamlets where, as Andrew Gilligan reports in the Telegraph on June 12, local police have “covered up” a violent campaign by Islamic militants to “Islamicise” the neighborhood.
Locals say that as hate crimes by Muslims, particularly against homosexuals, have increased, police have refused to investigate or lay charges and have suppressed information to the public for fear of being labeled “Islamophobic” or racist.
Violent crimes against homosexuals in Tower Hamlets have risen by 80 percent since 2007/8, the Telegraph reports, and by 21 percent over the last year. The local Conservative party leader, Peter Golds, said that when complaints of harassment by Muslims are taken to police, they are routinely ignored.
“I have complained, twice, to the police, and have heard nothing. A Labour colleague waited three hours at the police station before being told that nothing would be done. The police are afraid of being accused of Islamophobia.
“Another Labour councilor said that the Met [London police] is now the reverse of what it must have been like in the 1970s, with a complete lack of interest when white people make complaints of harassment and hatred.”
When posters appeared all over Tower Hamlets quoting the Koran and declaring the borough a “gay-free zone,” anti-Christian homosexualist campaigner Peter Tatchell told the Telegraph, “The police said no-one was allowed to talk publicly about this because they didn’t want to upset the Muslim community.”
Homosexuals, he said, are paralyzed by their own fear on the one hand of being labeled “Islamophobic” and being harassed and physically assaulted on the other, he said.
The local homosexualist group, Rainbow Hamlets LGBT Community Forum, issued a statement condemning the anti-gay posters, but added, “We also condemn those who use these incidents to create a moral panic and stoke up racist or Islamophobic sentiment. At present the people responsible cannot be accurately determined, but it is clear that whoever is responsible, they do not represent any of the local communities.”
Andrew Gilligan commented, “It seems rather unlikely that posters quoting the Koran were put up by evangelical Christians, yuppies, brogue-wearing trendies or members of the white working class, the other main parts of the Tower Hamlets community.”

Refuting Quburi Nit-Picking Regarding Tabligh.

Al Salamu 'Alaykum.
The Ahl al Bida' have many objections to the work of Da'wah in general and the the Tablighi Jamah in particular. This is an old post which I put up on Sunniforum in response to the wild insinuations of a Barelwi on a mushrik forum which is also called "Sunni" forum:

"Here is a point by point answer to a Barelwi on another forum whose statements are in Red. The responses of the Ahl al Haqq are in blue. Great thanks is owed to those brothers who have given these answers in earlier threads related to the TJ. May Allah bless you. I have copy-pasted and joined your posts in composing this answer to the Ahl al Bida'. Wasalam.

Now a few in Deoband School of thought

deoband Bidah number 1
,
► Going out for 3 day Chilla
,
deoband Bidah number 2
,
► Going out for 4 months
,
deoband Bidah number 3
,
► Going out for 40 days

I will answer the first three of your foolish statements together. By the way you should have labeled them as tablighi bida’hs but its ok. Your post is nonsense anyways. The 3 day Jama’h is actually known as Se-roza, not chilla.
Firstly, an answer in general terms:
“There are some commandments in Shari’ah in which the method is not stipulated. For example, it is a commandment of Shariah to acquire knowledge, but the manner in which the Madrasas are established today, is not proven through Quran and Hadith. Up until the recent past, the scholars used to teach in the masjids of their respective towns and villages. The students had to go to different scholars to learn the different sciences. No arrangements of food or boarding were made. However, the zeal for knowledge had decreased as time went by, and the scholars felt it necessary to establish the system of Darul Ulooms as is established today. Nobody regards such a system to be bid’ah.
The number of days is also not compulsory, it is only recommended just as it is recommended that a person studying first aid, for example, serves one month as practicals. While he will not be an expert in medicine, he will know the basic things to do during an emergency. Similarly, a person going out for 3 days, 40 days, 4 months, etc. does not become an expert on Shariáh, but he will learn the basic requirements of Shariáh. The more time he gives, the more he will learn and perfect himself. The time frame is not a criteria according to Shariáh. It is not regarded as compulsory in the Shari’ah. The time is merely recommended like the time frame for any course in college and university. There is no prohibition in Shari’ah to set time frames for learning and training. Similarly, Shariah has commanded us to do the work of tableegh. This work used to be done on an individual basis. The learned people used to preach the others and prevent them from all vices. As time went on, vice started prevailing, and people had stopped doing the work on an individual basis; therefore, a collective effort had to take place, and rules had to be set up for the work to carry on in order. Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: With regard to limiting da’wah to three or four days, or to two or four or six months, or two years, there is no shar’i evidence for that. But they think that this has to do with organization. If a person goes out for three days, and knows that he is limited to these three days, he will focus his mind and forget about worldly matters. This is the matter of organization, and is not an act of worship or a matter of shari’ah.”

Specific answers based in the understanding of Buzurgan-e-deen: Firstly
• ثُمَّ خَلَقْنَا النُّطْفَةَ عَلَقَةً فَخَلَقْنَا الْعَلَقَةَ مُضْغَةً فَخَلَقْنَا الْمُضْغَةَ عِظَاماً فَكَسَوْنَا الْعِظَامَ لَحْماً ثُمَّ أَنشَأْنَاهُ خَلْقاً آخَرَ فَتَبَارَكَ اللَّهُ أَحْسَنُ الْخَالِقِينَ }

40 days approx

80 days approx

120 days approx ( Fetus )

almost 4 months, the heartbeat can be felt in the fetus

According to Ustad Dr. Manzoor Ahmed Mengal sahib, this is defined by ‘Ulama because a person goes through a complete change in his life in 4 months. If you dedicate your life for Allah for 4 months, it incorporates itself into your routine.

Secondly:

So for four months, you have the incident of 'Umar as described above by sahih chains and this is recognised by jurists of all classes.

“Sura 6 - Al-Anaam (MAKKA) : Verse 160:
Whoso bringeth a good deed will receive tenfold the like thereof, while whoso bringeth an ill-deed will be awarded but the like thereof; and they will not be wronged. Tr by Pickthall.
Got the idea? 3x10=30. Go for three days, get rewarded for the whole month. Go every month for 3 days and get rewarded for the whole year. Subhanallah.

You did not mention one year. ‘Ulama go in Jama’h for one year. Please see Hayat al Sahaba for the incident of Mus’ab ibn ‘Umayr(ra) and how he was sent by Rasulullah(saws) to the Ansar for the Deen and he would meet with the Prophet(saws) once a year.

The last weekend of the month is not specified anywhere except in your fevered imagination. In most mosques, a jama’h leaves every week and sometimes on weekends. So this objection is also baseless.

5, 6 & 7 will be answered together.
Specifying a day for weekly gasht(ijtimaayi) is an administrative matter. If the day is not specified then how will people collect for the gasht? It does not need daleel. By the way infiradi gasht can be done at any time or day of the week. Taking three people in the gasht is not at all necessary, you can take 3, 4, 5, 6 or whatever and you can do it alone also. So don’t just fill the post with words.

I heard Allah's Apostle saying, "The reward of deeds depends upon intentions(niyyaat) and every person will get the reward according to what he has intended. So whoever emigrated for worldly benefits or for a woman to marry, his emigration was for what he emigrated for." Sahih al bukhari, vol 1, book 1, hadith 1.

► Designating one day of a week for weekly Biyan , Called Shab e Jumma, or some times on Thursdays and saturdays.

Shab-e-jumu’a=night of jumu’a.
If a day in the week is not designated for bayan then how will people know when the bayan is going to be held? According to your post it is sometimes Friday, Thursday and Saturday. That means that there is no fixed single day for the entire jama’h. That itself frees the 'amal from the stigma of bida’. Stop being excessively foolish.

The TJ is an islah movement that primarily works in the Muslims. You write, “Nothing is wrong in it I agree” and yet you call it bida’. This is known as a contradiction.
,

First answer above, remember not from ijhtihad of imams [rah] but only sahih and marfu hadiths,You do know defination of a bidah right ?

All the ahadith quoted above are sahih and marfu’. Also the ijtihad of all the Imams of Ahl al Sunna is based on the Qur’an, Sunna, Ijma’ and Qiyas. So you were wrong is asking for only hadith. We know the definition of Bida’ but as your post shows you don’t know what Bida’ is, how it is to be defined & how it is to be fought. Hence this post, which you presented out of Hizbiyya(for Barelwiyya) rather than a desire for sincere advice (nasiha). May Allah guide you."

'Abdullah Quillam On Jihaad.

"In the name of God, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful!
Peace be to all True-Believers to whom this shall come!
Know ye, O Muslims, that the British Government has decided to commence military and warlike operations against the Muslims of the Soudan, who have taken up arms to defend their country and their faith. And it is in contemplation to employ Muslim soldiers to fight against these Muslims of the Soudan.
For any True Believer to take up arms and fight against another Muslim is contrary to the Shariat, and against the law of God and his holy prophet.
I warn every True-Believer that if he gives the slightest assistance in this projected expedition against the Muslims of the Soudan, even to the extent of carrying a parcel, or giving a bite of bread to eat or a drink of water to any person taking part in the expedition against these Muslims that he thereby helps the Giaour against the Muslim, and his name will be unworthy to be continued upon the roll of the faithful.
Signed at the Mosque in Liverpool, England, this 10th day of Shawwal, 1313 (which Christians erroneously in their ignorance call the 24th day of March, 1896),

Imam Shamil & Haji Murad.

Al Salamu 'Alaykum.
Imam Shamil and Hadji Murad, little known in the West, loom large in Russian history. Here is what Wikipedia says about them: Imam Shamil (1797 - 1871) was an Avar political and religious leader of the Muslim tribes of the Northern Caucasus. He was a leader of anti-Russian resistance in the Caucasian War and was the third Imam of Dagestan and Chechnya (1834-1859).Imam Shamil was born in 1797 in the small village of Gimry, which is in current-day Dagestan. His father was a free landlord, and this position allowed Shamil to study many subjects, including Arabic and logic. Shamil established himself as a well-respected and educated man among other Muslims of the Caucasus. He made a pilgrimage or hajj to Mecca in 1828 and there he met Abdel Kadir, from whom he learned guerrilla war tactics.

Shamil was born at a time when the Russian Empire was expanding into the territories of the Ottoman Empire and Persia (see Russo-Persian War, 1804-13 and Russo-Turkish Wars). Supported by the Persian Shah, many Caucasian tribes rebelled against Russian rule in what became known as the Caucasian War. Some of the earlier leaders of Caucasian resistance were Sheikh Mansur, and Ghazi Mollah. Shamil was actually childhood friends with Mollah, and would become his disciple.

In 1834, Ghazi Mollah died at the battle of Ghimri, and Shamil took his place as the premier leader of the Caucasian resistance. Shamil was effective at uniting the many, frequently quarreling, Caucasian tribes to fight against the Russians. He made effective use of guerrilla warfare tactics and the resistance continued under his leadership until 1859. On August 25, 1859 Shamil and his family surrendered to Russian forces and were jailed in the Dagestan gaol of Gunib.

After his capture, Shamil was sent to Saint Petersburg to meet the Tsar, and then was exiled to Kaluga, then a small town near Moscow. In 1869 he was given permission to retire to the holy city of Mecca, and he travelled there through Istanbul. He died in Medina in 1871 while visiting the city, and was buried in Jannatul Baqi which is also the site where many important personalities from Islamic history are buried. His two sons (Cemaleddin and Muhammed Efi) became officers in the Russian army. Shamil continues to be revered in the Caucasus for his resistance to the Russians, and is held up as a role-model by those leading the current fight against Russian control of the region. The Chechen warlord Shamil Basayev is named after him.

Hadji Murad (18??-1853) was an important Caucasian leader during the national resistance of the Caucasian peoples in 1711-1864 against the Russian Empire's seizure of the region. Leo Tolstoy's posthumously published novel Hadji Murad (1912) is a fictionalized account of Murad's struggle with the Russian Empire.

Hadji Murad was born in a small oul named Tselmas, in the first quarter of the 19th Century. He is a famous Caucasian hero, coming as second only behind Shamil himself. Murad is ethnicly an Avar and was arguably among the best marksmen of his time, having a reputation for not shooting twice at the same target. Leo Tolstoy had written a masterpiece about him with the his name Hadji Murad. Although his life was short and full of heroism, at first he was actually on the Russian side (the historical enemy of his people and his way of life. But later when Russians arrested him after one of his rivals set him up for a crime he never did, his attitude changed against them. He was being escorted by a troop detachment to exile, but Hadji Murad escaped by jumping off a cliff with one of his captors whom he grabbed in the last second.

Hadji Murad was severely wounded from the fall (always cartying the injury from the fall thorugh the rest of his life), while the Russian soldier died instantly. He stayed at a nearby village and decided to join Imam Shamil. He sent a letter to Shamil and asked to join him. Shamil gladly accepted him (Shamil had asked for his help early on but was refused by Murad). While fighting under Shamil, Hadji Murad performed many successful raids against the Russian invasion forces. He also invented some totally new military tactics to give a quite well known example; reversing the shoes of horses so anyone who folled him went to the wrong direction. For some years the two great warriors wrecked havoc and fear among Russian Army, causing many problems. This partnership was not to be long. Some of the Shamil's naibs turned Shamil against Hadji Murad because of their jealousy against Murad.

Shamil named his son as his successor, and this angered Murad. Learning Murad's reaction, Shamil ordered him to be stripped of his rank and the war tribute he captured earlier. Hadji Murad wrote an angry reply; "the only thing I have with me is my sword and let Shamil take it with his own!" Shamil was enraged by this and immediately prepared for a duel, but he was stopped, and bloodshed was avoided, but the partnership that began with a letter ended with another one. Shamil secretly arranged to kill Murad as soon as his talents were no longer needed.

Hadji Murad was a clever man. He suspected the plot by Shamil against his life, and he escaped and went over to the Russians with four of his loyal friends. The Russians were pleased to see this great warrior on their side. They had hoped that this new development would end the long and costly war. When Shamil learned about this, he reacted by imprisoning Murad's whole family. Hadji Murad was enraged when he heard the news, and he asked Russians assistance to save his family. But the support never came... The Russians were suspicious of Hadji Murad from the beginning, and they held him in a Russian fort in the Caucasus. During this time discouraging news kept coming to Murad's ears about his family's condition, while Murad was a prisoner far away.

He even asked to lead a Russian-Caucasian force to crush Shamil, but the Russians refused all his offers. Finally Hadji Murad couldn't stand waiting while his family were being held prisoners by his new enemy. Murad planed his escape with his four loyal men. He made his escape when only five Cossacks were left to escort him on an innocent looking ride. It was an even battle in numbers, but the Cossack guards did not know what hit them, and only one managed to escape and warn the Headquarters back at the fort. Now Hadji Murad had no time to waste and had to move quickly if he was to have a chance...

According to Leo Tolstoy's fictionalized account of Murad's life, he was killed during this attempt at escaping from the Russian fort in which he was imprisoned. He was permitted to ride out with five of his men with the escort of five Cossacks. Hadji Murad and his force fled on horseback, killing the pursuing Cossacks. But one Cossack, Mishkin, managed to escape and informed the fort of the situation. The Russians hastily raised a posse of police forces and bounty hunters. Murad and his force stumbled into a swamp. Murad was killed.

Swiss Muslims Rise Against Islamophobia.

Al Salamu 'Alaykum.

Over the past years news stories about Muslims in Switzerland were widely highlighted in the media, shedding some light on a community that was not fairly introduced to either the Swiss or the international societies.

Before the big fuss about the minarets ban, there was little information about Muslims in Switzerland, in terms of their challenges and contributions to the society which they are living in and belonging to.

Today, October 29, Swiss Muslims are demonstrating against Islamophobia and racism in the city of Bern by hosting a conference which is expected to be the largest Islamic festival to have occurred in Switzerland.

The conference is organized by The Islamic Central Council of Switzerland (ICCS) under the theme, “Day Against Islamophobia and Racism”. This conference is supported by a wide variety of groups both in Switzerland and across Europe, to ensure the basic human rights of Muslims in the Swiss society.

As highlighted on the official website of ICCS, speakers of the conference include Lauren Booth, the sister-in-law of ex-Prime Minister Tony Blair- a well-known British journalist who converted to Islam in 2010, two prominent and influential leaders of Islamic communities - Sheikh Abdullah al-Samit Frank Bubenheim from Germany and Mufti Muamer Zukorlic from Sandžak.

On the other side, it is planned to include in the conference schedule special performances from Labbayk, an Islamic vocal group from the as well as one of the most popular singers in the Muslim Albanian Diaspora in Western Europe, Adem Ramadani.

One of the event's supporters is Yvonne Ridley, a well-known British journalist made famous for her capture by the Taliban in 2001 and her subsequent conversion to Islam.

Anti- Islam Agenda

The conference comes as an outcry from the Muslim community in Switzerland against what they define as "shocking attitudes" towards them directed by some political parties.

The conference comes as an outcry from the Muslim community in Switzerland against what they define as "shocking attitudes" towards them directed by some political parties like the far-right Swiss People’s Party (SVP) - which was behind the referendum of banning the building of new minarets in the European country.

On November 29, 2009, The Swiss electorate voted in favor of the far-right call for a blanket ban on the construction of minarets, the issue that made Muslim leaders fear that the minaret ban would only be the first step to undermine their presence in Switzerland.

However the anti-Islam move in Switzerland have other manifestations, like ostracizing of Muslim women in the workplace because of wearing the veil (headscarf) and numerous debates surrounding the banning of the face veil (the niqab).

A bill initiated by the SVP far-right party entitled “Masks off”- which was approved on September 28, 2011 by Switzerland’s lower house of parliament - called for the ban of wearing face-veils in public places.

"At a time when insecurity is growing in our streets, more and more people are hiding their faces behind a balaclava, a mask or a burqa,” said Oskar Freysinger, a lawmaker of the far-right Swiss People’s Party (SVP), reported Agence France-Presse (AFP).

"This makes it impossible to identify these people, a fact that is particularly troublesome in case of violence or identity checks."

Move!

"Day Against Islamophobia and Racism" conference comes as "a chance for Muslims and non-Muslims to stand together and support one another to ensure a fundamental human right: the freedom of religion."

"It is an ideal chance for attendees to gain a closer insight into the life of Muslims in Switzerland," as mentioned on the official site.

It is highlighted through the conference posters and brochures that the day aims to stifle the growth of Islamophobia ideology that has the capacity of destroying the framework of a social order where Muslims can both exercise their religious rights and function as part of the Swiss society without discrimination or fear of reprisals.
